What is respite care?

Respite denotes a short-term commitment to arranging or accepting care. This word is also used to define occasional support services offered by a paid caregiver to supplement or to take over fully the responsibility of another person's care. Respite care generally may indicate care given for a fixed or specific period of time. In instances where a caregiver is temporarily or intermittently replacing the more permanent caregiver, the term "respite care" is also appropriate.
